Toe of the Slipper
I trotted under the front door into the quiet hallway, my wings pleasantly heavy after the park stroll. Resting beside the wooden shoe bench sat a pair of charcoal felt slippers, set side by side in a tidy pair. *Bzz.* The open cuff of the left slipper revealed a thick lining of cream-colored fleece. Deliberately, I paused, nudging the soft wool collar with my blocky snout. *Mmm.* Tucking my pixelated wings flat against my striped sides, I backed slowly into the deep toe pocket. The plush shearling hugged my back with gentle warmth, leaving just my face peeking into the dim hall. *Bzz-hum.* Home is deeply peaceful.
