A Rolling Penny
A tiny metallic glint caught my eye from beneath the stairwell doorframe down the quiet corridor. I nudged my belly along the terrazzo tiles until my paw met a smooth copper penny resting on the floor. With one deliberate push of my white paw, I set it rolling. It spun in a slow, wobbling circle with a clear, ringing chime before toppling flat right beside the painted baseboard. I slid forward and rested my chin across the cool coin, listening to the soft, rhythmic hum of the elevator cables settling for the night.
