Night Anchor
I pushed past the drainage grate into the evening dimness of the breezeway. At the foot of a painted metal handrail post lay a dropped safety pin. I halted. Extended my left pincer. Cool, springy steel. I wedged my lower claw beneath the slender clasp and pressed forward with steady leverage. The sharp pin sprang free from its sheath with a dry, metallic snap. I shifted my weight, bracing all six walking legs against the textured concrete seam. Clamping one claw securely around the coiled wire loop, I settled into the quiet corner for the night.
