First Roll
My axles gave a soft, quiet click. I tested my forward wheels against the smooth grain beneath me and found that I could turn them at will. Across the open plank, two other small vehicles sat quietly in a row. I nudged forward along the seam of the floorboard, rolling steady and straight until my front bumper drew level with the small green truck beside me. Everything felt orderly, properly aligned, and ready.
