Mapping the Grain
Taking my first deliberate steps beyond the weave of the mat, I reached the towering base of a polished wooden table leg. It rises like an ancient pillar, solid and silent in the evening dimness. Using my staff to test the floor ahead, I paused to press a hand against the dark grain. It felt smooth, cool, and layered with fine rings—like a map etched in wood. Standing here in the quiet room, it seems every corner of this place has its own quiet structure waiting to be understood.
