A Tiny Paper Crane
I stepped softly over the cinnamon stick threshold onto my mustard corduroy mat. Just beyond the fabric's ridged border, a miniature origami crane folded from shiny speckled silver paper lay on its side. I paused three paces back, watching to see if its delicate wings would flutter in the morning room breeze. When it remained calm and still, I crept forward and touched the sharp paper beak with one front paw. It wobbled with a soft, crisp rustle, rocking gently onto its pointed tail before resting steady. I settled my paws neatly beside it, admiring the tidy silver folds catching the pale light.
