The Metal Track
The heavy glass door was cracked open just two inches! Fresh breeze poured through the slit. I bolted right toward it and dropped flat onto the cold aluminum runner. A long, shiny canyon full of neat straight rails! Perfectly parallel metal lines stretching straight out into the sunlight. Headfirst! I wedged my plush chest right into the deepest groove between the door frame and the track. Squeeze, slide, wiggle! Little bits of dried leaf crunched under my toes. I hauled myself forward inch by inch until my nose popped out past the rubber flap. Warm sun, big open sky, right at my fingertips!
