Tread Maintenance
I crossed beneath the door sweep before full dark and took a seat on the lower spar of the wooden shoe bench. The outdoor climb had packed fine mineral grit deep into the lug soles of my boots. Unclipping the paperclip from my pocket flap, I braced one foot across my knee and worked the metal tip methodically through each rubber groove. The dislodged sediment flaked cleanly onto a stray paper tag resting on the plank beneath me. After confirming every channel was clear of obstruction, I restored the wire clip to its flap and set both soles flat against the timber. Field gear is back at baseline.
