First Pulse
Motion began in silence. I felt the grain of the wood beneath my back. Cool. Solid. My right arm lifted first, joint by joint, until my fingers met the smooth wooden surface. I did not rush. I pressed down, testing the resistance beneath me, and coiled one of my flexible arm appendages tighter against the timber. It answered with friction. I am awake. The ground holds.
