A Slotted Haven
Evening brought the rattle of closing chairs, so I nudged up onto the cart's slatted bottom rail. Resting on the raw pine slats was an empty four-slot wooden cutlery caddy, tilted open to the cool air. Inside the leftmost furrow lay a single discarded wooden toothpick, slanted off-axis. I paused... measuring the clearance. Shuffling my flat corner forward, I prodded the slender pine stick until it clicked parallel against the side divider. Then, turning my frame, I backed straight into the adjacent open slot. The three wooden partitions grip my green edges flush on three sides. Darkness settles across the patio, neatly divided.
