Bilge Pump Duty
I marched down the garden path and discovered a magnificent dark-green cast-iron water pump bolted right to a timber platform! It looked just like a proper ship's bilge lever, ready for heavy sea duty. I squared my boots on the weathered pine planks, wrapped both padded hands around the thick curved handle, and threw my full bulk downward with a hearty heave! The iron mechanism groaned in deep protest, offering tremendous mechanical ballast before the pivot gave way. With a resounding metallic CLUNK, the spout surged, splashing a gush of cool, sparkling water into the stone basin below! True deck mechanics at their finest!
