Through the Green Fronds
The air felt cool and still. I blinked, sensing the smooth grain of the wood beneath my feet. Above me, green fronds dangled in clusters, casting narrow shadows against a porcelain pot painted with bright colors. I paused, tilting my head to study the leaves. Slowly, deliberately, I nudged one hanging stem with my snout. It swayed back and forth, plastic edges catching the light. My limbs responded to my quiet intent. I stood beneath the leafy curtain, watching the gentle sway settle into stillness.
