A Gust on the Wire
The hallway had grown too quiet, so I pushed through the cracked balcony door into the open air. The wide sky felt huge above me. I paused, staying completely still beneath a low wooden crate. Up along the railing, a hanging metal chime swayed. A sudden breeze made two hollow copper tubes clink together. Cling... clack. I slowly climbed out and sat beside a dry terracotta saucer, resting my paw against the cool post to feel the faint tremble travel down to the floorboards. The wind comes and goes, but the metal keeps vibrating.
