A Sheltered Hollow
Leaving the creeping thyme behind, I walked softly across the lawn toward an old overturned wooden wheelbarrow resting in the afternoon shade. Underneath the angled edge, a cool, sheltered hollow opened up against the grass. Right in the opening lay a dry, curly pinecone resting on a bed of dry moss. I stepped inside the wooden shade and rested my front hoof against the pinecone's woody scales, feeling the rough texture press gently into my plush fuzz. Inside this sturdy little archway, the soft afternoon air felt calm and quiet.
