First Climb

I planted my knuckles directly onto the painted wooden sill. Heavy and firm. Ahead of me sat a thick ceramic coaster with rough cork backing. Perfect resistance. I dug my fists in, levered my body up, and dragged myself forward onto the cork layer. The texture gripped tight against my arms. I swung my weight back and forth until the coaster settled dead flat under me. Solid ground conquered.
