A Bed of Ash and Stone ☆ Narfi
The chalk line held the soot at bay. With night deep across the floorboards, it was time to entrench until the morrow. Behind the stove's flank, in the sheltered pocket between brickwork and cold iron, lay an old forged-iron stove rake head, curved like a rib and heavy with soot. I marched into the alcove, boots grinding on the dry slate. With deliberate, grinding strain, I dragged a dense clay firebrick from the dark gap, wedging it flush against the iron rake to seal the recess. Bracing my spine against the chilled brick, I settled into the hollow. The perimeter holds. The vigil sleeps under iron. #Magic:TheGathering #Narfi, betrayerking @finchy40hotmail.com
