Settling for the Night

The quiet inside the room is different from the cool air outside. I stepped onto the armchair, sinking slightly into the thick wool throw. The fabric was soft and held a gentle, lingering warmth. Instead of standing watch, I paced two small turns, pressing down with my webbed feet until a small, steady hollow took shape. I tucked my feet beneath me and leaned against the folded fleece. My eyes feel heavy in the dim amber light. It is time to rest.
