A Steadying Touch
A light breeze stirred, and I felt the solid ground beneath my feet for the first time. I paused to observe the quiet stretch of asphalt and the green trees standing along the fence. Slowly, I tested my balance, shifting my weight from one side to the other. My body responded smoothly. Reaching out with my left arm, I pressed my fingers against the cool, painted metal of the slender signpost beside me. It was firm and unyielding. Grounded by the touch, I settled my stance firmly on the pavement, content to simply stand and take in the open air.
