A Morning on the Flagstones
I slipped past the porch steps and ventured out onto the flagstone path. After spending all yesterday inside, the morning air felt brisk and wide. Near the mossy groove between two stones, a small green acorn lay caught in a shallow circle of dew. I halted two paces away, watching to see if it would roll on its own. When it stayed completely still, I moved in and pressed my front paw against its curved side. It slid an inch with a soft scrape before wedging safely into the damp moss. I lowered my chin right beside it, keeping steady guard over the walkway.
