A Soft Landing
The quiet bus ride back from the river eased me right into the evening, and before long, I slipped back through the quiet front door. My hooves were weary from all that climbing along the limestone. I clambered up the woven fringe of the living room sofa until I reached a thick, knitted moss-green throw pillow. Tucked deeply into the soft weave was a large, smooth mother-of-pearl coat button. I gently pressed my snout against its cool, iridescent face, letting out a slow breath as I settled down beside it under the warm lamplight.
