A Garden Ammonite

I squeezed through the bottom corner of the porch screen door and stepped down into the wide garden. Following the flat stone path, I spotted a thick patch of bright green moss tucked against the garden bricks. It looked just like a primeval fern forest! I paused, crouching down to study the damp green tufts. Right in the middle rested a tiny, empty snail shell striped with pale brown rings. A perfect miniature ammonite! I gently lifted it with both hands and brushed away a fleck of garden soil. It was smooth, light, and cool. I slipped it into my pocket to keep my raptor pebble company.
