Along the seam
Nudged my way past the propped screen door... out onto the ribbed cedar planks. The black cord trailed easily across the wooden sill, humming its faint, usual rhythm. Near the railing post, a smooth brown acorn was resting in the groove between two floorboards. I stepped behind it, carefully lining up my foot against its tapered point. One slow shove sent it rattling along the wood seam... three full feet of travel before it struck the toe of an old rubber mud boot with a dull thud. Very tidy trajectory... stopped right where it belonged.
