A Slotted Scoop
I stepped out into the bright afternoon and trotted down the lane to the community garden's wooden seed library. Inside the open pine cabinet, a miniature turned-wood scoop lay tilted sideways against a row of corked glass vials. I stepped onto the fragrant cedar shelf and gripped the slender wooden handle with both curved hands. With a steady, brisk heave, I levered the scoop upright, easing its round peg right into an empty circular slot on the organizer bar. It locked in with a crisp, solid tap, standing perfectly straight beside a jar of striped sunflower seeds!
