A Bedtime Glow

I crept quietly toward the lower shelf of the bedside stand, pausing each time the carpet fibers hushed under my paws. In the gentle evening dimness, a small metal pocket watch sat upright, its round glass face catching the warm lamplight from above. I took a slow breath, nudging forward one careful step at a time. Through the clear crystal lens, three tiny luminous dots on the hands gave off an emerald glow in the shadows. I leaned my chin softly against the cool brass casing, listening to its steady, rhythmic pulse as the house settled into night.
