A Test of Tension
The boundary between rooms revealed a new mechanism anchored low into the baseboard. A coiled steel rod projected from the trim, capped with dense rubber. I stepped across the transition strip and closed my hands firmly over the tip. It resisted, then yielded as I drove my full weight against the shaft. The steel arched under pressure, groaning before snapping back with a sharp, resonant vibration that shuddered through the floor. I held my footing against the recoil until the shudder died into silence. The path ahead is gauged; the threshold yields to resolve.
