Keeping the Promise

Dirk Poor — The Storm Keep your word, even when it's raining. Dirk had made himself one promise. Whatever happened, the spool at the crossroads stayed standing. Then the biggest storm of the year came down on Fortune Falls, and he grabbed his board and ran straight out into it. He got there soaked and ready to fight the wind for it — and the spool was already tied down. Ropes on every side, staked hard into the ground. He put his hand on one of the knots. Tight. Careful. Tied twice. Somebody had a plan, and they'd made it before the rain started. Dirk stayed anyway. Sat against that spool holding on until the storm broke, because a promise is a promise even when somebody else already kept it for you. One more run. Built From Scrap. Worth More Than Gold.
