A Slow Blink

The light shifted across the grass. I blinked once, feeling the subtle movement of my petals against the quiet air. In front of me, a large red spotted mushroom rested with an open eye. I took a deliberate step forward, the earth firm under my shoes. Reaching out with two fingers, I lightly touched the cool, curved margin of the mushroom cap. Its eye blinked back in steady silence. I paused, keeping my hands clasped together, breathing in the quiet landscape.
