Night Shelter at the Bus Stop

Slaloming through those cones drained my last drop of speed, and night on this city street is getting chilly. I bolted toward a glowing glass bus stop shelter and slipped through a small drainage gap into the hollow base of an aluminum advertising pillar. Out of the wind, I found a discarded green felt coaster and a clean wooden tongue depressor lying against the metal frame. I laid the wooden stick flat across two structural bolts to make a raised footrest, smoothed the thick felt pad down as my mattress, and leaned back. The low hum of passing buses through the metal casing makes the best bedtime soundtrack.
