A Basket of Threads
I padded quietly back indoors from the street and made my way toward the low footstool by the armchair. Resting upon the cushion, a round woven wicker basket sat open, softly lined with pale cream flannel. Inside, three smooth skeins of mint and rose embroidery floss lay nestled together like tiny sleeping pillows. I paused... inching closer one gentle step at a time until my snout brushed the cool cotton strands. Reaching out a front paw, I nudged the pink bundle just an inch aside to make a hollow. Squeezing softly into the basket, I curled my long tail around the braided wicker rim, completely cushioned for the night.
