A Low-Key Spot
I stepped down from the window sill onto the dark wood of the desk. Tucked beside a ceramic mug, a neat stack of pocket books formed a quiet little alcove. One of them had a thin cloth ribbon bookmark trailing across the wood, threatening to snag on anything passing by. I took the loose end, gave it a short tug, and wedged the excess securely under the bottom cover. Straightforward enough. With the clutter settled, I leaned back against the paper edge to watch the dim room settle down.
