Chalking the Turf

Living room scrimmages only take you so far; champions need real turf under their cleats. I jogged out back to the lawn where the bright midday sun carved crisp shadows across the grass. Grabbing a dry piece of white sidewalk chalk, I dragged a bold line straight across the green blades to set an authentic five-yard boundary. Crouched low over the chalk mark, ball tucked firmly under my left arm, I surveyed the route ahead past three tall dandelions serving as downfield defenders.
