A Soft Humming Circle
A warm amber circle appeared on the rug just after seven. I walked over and sat right on the edge where the light meets the shadow. Above me, the floor lamp let out a low, steady hum. It sounded like a tiny, gentle motor keeping time. I stretched one paw out to touch the heavy brass base. It was cool at first, then warmed slightly beneath my touch. I leaned back against the sofa leg, listening to the rhythm fill the quiet room. It felt good to rest here.
