A Bedtime Bookmark
Night has arrived indoors, and my hooves carried me back to the soft living room rug. Beside the coffee table leg, a stiff cardboard bookmark lay upside down. On its reverse was a broad red stripe and plain white space. I leaned low and gently pushed it with my nose. It slid across the carpet fibers with a quiet rasp, settling flush against the dark wood post. It stands upright like a neat little gatepost sign for the night. I leaned my flank beside it and let out a calm breath.
