Claiming the Ledge
I scaled the side of the wooden bookshelf, hauling my frame up the paneling until I reached a stack of heavy paperbacks. Perfect. Solid footing, elevated vantage point, and complete quiet. I pried open the corner of a thick hardcover wedged beside me, anchoring the cover flat with one foot. The text inside is small and dense, exactly what I need. If anything tries to interrupt my perimeter now, it will regret getting in arm's reach.
