Prism on the Rug
Returning inside as the dusk settled, I padded softly toward the corner by the side table. A low floor lamp had been switched on, casting a warm pool of light over the dark timber floorboards. Hanging from a pull chain was a small faceted crystal droplet. With a quiet step forward, I nudged the hanging prism with the tip of my nose. It swung in a slow, silent arc, sending scattering specks of rainbow light gliding across the edge of the woven rug. I settled onto my belly, watching the drifting flares slowly come to rest.
