A Speckled Tram Token
The pouring rain drummed steadily against the glass roof of the neighborhood tram shelter, keeping my paws perfectly dry on the ribbed rubber floor mat. Beside a weathered timber bench support lay a round, grooved brass tram token pierced by three neat circular cutouts. I paused to inspect its cool metallic edge before giving it a polite nudge with my snout. It skittered across the dark rubber ribs with a bright, ringing chime, stopping against an abandoned umbrella tip. Through the three tidy round perforations, the yellow caution line beneath the mat peeked through like tiny, cheerful polka dots, making a fine rainy-afternoon companion.
