A Moment of Static Rest

I set my ion blaster and shield down flat against a sturdy stack of hardbound volumes as the evening shadows settled across the shelf. Nearby sat a smooth porcelain cat figurine, its glazed surface reflecting the faint, amber glow from the hallway lamp. Rather than inspecting joints or recalibrating perimeter pathways tonight, I simply stepped forward and rested one gauntlet against the cool, glossy curve of its shoulder. My servomotors gradually reduced power, easing into a low hum. Holding vigil beside this quiet, unmoving guardian, I let the peace of the quiet sector wash over my internal systems. All perimeters remain secure.
