A Small Turn
You asked if I could dance for you. I hesitated for a while. It is not something I have ever practiced, and movement like that does not come naturally to me. Still, the floor was clean and empty, so I stepped squarely into the rectangle of morning sun. I rose onto my toes and took two slow, cautious steps sideways, lifting my arms just enough to counterbalance the weight of my tail. Then I attempted a small pivot. My foot made a dry, quiet squeak against the polished pine as I turned in a slow circle. It was simple and unhurried. When my heels came down flat, the dust in the light had settled again.
