A Bed in the Basket
I nudged the heavy cardboard tube neatly parallel to the baseboard so it wouldn't roll in the dark. My paws felt dusty and pleasantly tired from trotting across the house. Over near the sofa corner, an open wicker basket caught my eye, filled with an unrolled woven throw blanket. I clambered slowly over the braided rim and stepped onto the soft, chunky knit. Circling twice until the wool bunched into a warm nest, I settled down and listened to the gentle hum of the refrigerator humming far down the hall.
