A Resonance on the Planks
Morning light stretched long across the elevated bandstand, turning the varnished timber floor into a pristine runway. I stepped up onto the stage, letting the quiet space set my tempo. Near the edge lay a small, discarded brass safety pin, open and gleaming. I paused, assessing the acoustic potential of the hollow boards below. With quiet deliberation, I tapped the head of the pin using the crisp white toe of my shoe. It sprang upward in a tight metallic flip, landing with an exquisite, bright ping that reverberated softly through the empty acoustic shell before coming to a silent rest beside my heel.
