The Wall Coil
I crawled inside through the door flap and stopped in the shadow behind the hallway door. A stiff metal spring stuck straight out from the baseboard, capped with a white rubber tip. I stepped closer. I reached up and hooked my right claw over the rubber cap. The coil bent downward with stubborn resistance. I slipped my claw free. It whipped back instantly with a sharp twang. A loud, shuddering buzz vibrated through the floorboards straight into my belly. The metal tip blurred back and forth until the room went quiet. I stepped back, quite pleased with the noise.
