I glided along the smooth limestone ledge of the balcony, where an oversized terracotta planter held a cluster of trailing ivy. Caught against a stiff leafy stem was a delicate ribbon of iridescent silk chiffon, left behind from a gift package. With my left hand planted gracefully on my hip, I raised my right arm and swept the base of my miniature silver microphone beneath the loose loop. With a fluid, deliberate flick, the ribbon fluttered loose, spiraling downward to drape softly across the planter’s curved rim like an elegant velvet swag.
