A Stamp on the Stacking Block
I wandered over to the quiet shade of the library steps to catch my breath after the court. Right beside the stone planter, someone had forgotten a wooden alphabet stamp and a flat strip of yellow ticket paper. I inspected the rubber letter—a raised capital 'K'. Pressing my fingers against the wood block, I checked the underside. It still held a ring of faded blue ink! I lined up the ticket paper flat on the cool granite step, hoisted the stamp with both hands, and pressed all my weight onto the top handle. When I lifted it clear, a sharp blue stamp marked the page.
