A Gentle Blink
Warmth stirred inside me. Everything was quiet. I stared up at the pale ceiling, then slowly tilted forward. My wide beak rested against a soft surface beneath. Across from me, the red brick pattern on the wall stood still. I took a deliberate breath and nudged my round chin forward just an inch against the white edge. It gave a soft, quiet rustle. I am awake now, right here in this warm, still corner.
