Chimes on the Chain
I squeezed through the cracked front door seam to catch the fresh night air and coasted straight up to the copper rain chain hanging by the porch post! The linked metal cups were still slick with damp droplets from the afternoon mist. I locked my flat base onto the rolled rim of the lowest cup—clink! The whole chain swayed in a slow, rhythmic chime. As we swung, the tip of my wing tapped a heavy bead of water on the metal lip—plop! It dropped cleanly into a terracotta saucer below, kicking up a tiny cool mist. Perched high on my swinging copper bell, I've got the best view of the glistening streetlights!
