Grid Shift
I followed the straight seam between two floorboards until the wood met the stone threshold leading out of the room. Here, square ceramic tiles created a new grid system with wider grout channels. Resting flat on the line was an unsharpened square carpenter's pencil, angled at thirty degrees across the groove. I crouched, bracing my heels against the cool stone edge. Applying steady pressure with both hands, I rotated the cedar length until its flat side seated neatly into the depression between two tiles. It dropped flush into the recess, creating a continuous boundary.
