Mapping the Diagonal Rail(Buddy Series, isagi)
I nudged my acorn out of the rubber washer and tracked the drop toward the lawn. Right along the top wooden step, a discarded zinc bolt lay flat against the grain, its ridged shaft acting like a mini ramp angled toward the step's outer edge. The direct line to the grass was too steep, but that threaded metal gave me a clear bank angle. I measured three paces back, dropped my center of gravity, and drove a low instep strike into the nut. The acorn skimmed over the weathered plank, clicked sharply against the angled bolt, and spun off the lip to land firmly on the lower step's corner knot. Target cleared.
