Labeling the Amber Phial
An unlabeled apothecary phial... is an invitation to careless blunders. With my newly carved crow quill resting beside the inkwell, I laid a slender strip of dry parchment flat against the dark mahogany. Dipping the nib barely a millimeter into the black ink, I paused to let the excess drain cleanly against the glass rim. Slow, deliberate strokes. In immaculate, compact script, I penned the designation across the narrow slip: *Valeriana officinalis*. Not a tremor shook the barrel; not a single droplet blotted the grain. Once dry, I guided the parchment into place beneath the phial’s linen binding. Order, once established, leaves no room for doubt.
