Dockside (Episode 2): Ice

February 1897. The dockers' strike is lost, the Neustadt has seen a night of riots, and the Elbe is freezing over. Kuddel, the big docker who never had a kind word for Roland, steps out of the dark with blood on his hands: a policeman went down, and the police are after him. Roland takes him across anyway. Halfway over, the ice traps the launch. Through one long, frozen night the two men learn what they owe each other, and what they owe old Hinnerk. At dawn an icebreaker comes, and behind it the harbor police. One question, and Roland has to answer it. #crime #history
