A Mirrored Ripple

I scrambled up the rough concrete pedestal of the garden birdbath and curled my front claws over the scalloped rim. The shallow water was still as glass under the noon sun, reflecting my own dark snout and bright green eyes right back at me. I cocked my head with an energetic trill, watching the twin dragon mimic my every move. Cautiously leaning lower, I tapped the surface with the flat of my claw. Crisp concentric ripples fractured the reflection, scattering sparkles of sunlight across the stone basin, and I sprang back onto all fours with a blunt, excited click.
